Bipolar disorder cases rise sharply in U.S. children.

Main Ideas: -The number of American children and adolescents treated for bipolar disorder has increased a lot since 1994.
- Some psychiatrists think that bipolar disorder not often noticed and now youngsters are more aware of this disease and can receive the appropriate treatment. Others think that this term is being used to include every change of mood and behavior of children.
- Doctors are not sure about the diagnosis in children and whether they will grow up with the illness.
- Children do not present features like mania; as adults do kids tend to become depressed.
- To improve the treatment for children with this disease doctors must be accurate with the diagnosis.
- Most patients are boys and some suffer from other kind mental difficulties such as attention- deficit disorder.
- The treatments given to these children include antipsychotic drugs, antidepressants and stimulant were also common, and some received psychotherapy.
- The regimens are being generalized for children and adults.

Personal Reaction: The problem with children has its roots at home; parents leave them alone more than in other times. Kids do not have the attention of their parents any more they are left with nannies or in front of the TV. Some mental disorders like depression and attention-deficit disorder maybe is related to the lack of adult’s attention. It is true that many children are born with some kind of mental problem but the fact the number increased in the last year must have other factors involved. Society is a great influence nowadays children are accustomed to see things that affect their way of thinking and feeling. For instance they have act as adults before they are ready and this can create a disturbance in their behavior.
